This is an interesting tidbit of information. Admob serves ads on mobile devices (actually, mainly the iPhone). You’ve probably seen it in your free apps for your iPhone/iPod but have you seen it on web sites? If not, check out the great iCalTrain on your iPhone and you’ll know what I’m talking about. Apparently before Google made its offer to Admob for $750 million, Apple also unofficially approached the ad publisher. This raises some interesting thoughts about Apple’s dominance of mobile Internet.
Apple is reportedly interesting in hiring iPhone game developers — so what does this mean? Could Apple be considering entering the mobile arena similar to what Nintendo has done to console gaming by creating first party games? They can control the entire experience from initial point of sale to app purchases to the actual enjoyment of the games. Apple, the new Nintendo of mobile gaming. Remember, you read it here first.
